This is in response to Kim's Monday Musings from May 4. In 1992 Cody was almost 5 years old. His pre-school class had learned the song "God Bless America" for a program they were in. The teacher had worked so hard with the class and they could sing every verse of the song. Many of you may remember that my mother was so proud to be an American, and was very conservative. That summer we went to visit Mom & Pop. Of course, we want to show off our kids, so we had Cody sing for Grandma. He sang the two songs he knew - "God Bless America" and the Garth Brooks' song, "Friends In Low Places." As soon as he finished singing Mom grabbed him and almost threw him in the car. Barry and I had no idea what she was doing so we jumped in the car with them. Mom drove like she always did (like a bat out of hell) to a business in downtown Whitehall and took Cody inside. She marched right up to her friend, pulling Cody with her, and said, "You have to hear this." She had Cody sing his songs for Mr. Joe. By the time Cody finished singing Mr. Joe was shedding tears and reached in his pocket and handed my 5 year old a $10 bill. Cody was ready to go sing for more of Grandma's friends.
Fast forward to 2009 - Cody won't sing for us, no matter how much money we offer him.

How cute is that cowboy picture! I'll bet your Pop loved it. You said Whitney had a great voice, too. So maybe they should go on the road as the next country duo. You know, like Donny and Marie. Did they get their talent from you?
